Abstracts for accepted oral, poster, and computer demo presentations are available online

Abstracts and presentations

The majority of the conference schedule is filled with presentations from the community, including oral presentations, posters, computer visualizations and demos (new this year), and lightning talks.

Presentations span a full range of topics relevant to data intensive biology, from proteomics to flow cytometry to clinical data security practices

There is still a limited amount of space for additional posters. Submit one now. There will also be two lightning talk sessions during the conference. The call for these will go out in late June. 

Note that late abstracts can still be submitted for other types of presentations as well. Late abstracts will be considered by the Scientific Program Committee as cancellations happen in the case of a cancellation or as space becomes available.


The Galaxy community is dedicated to the principles of open access, and part of that commitment will make all GCC presentations available online after the conference. By submitting an abstract you:

  • Agree to make your slides/posters freely available online no later than August 1, 2016
  • Agree to have your presentations videotaped and made publicly available during and/or after the conference

Oral presentations

Accepted talks will be presented during the meeting. Talks will take 20 minutes. The meeting is single track and talks will be presented to all attendees.

On-time oral presentation abstract submission is now closed. However late oral presentation abstracts can still be submitted and will be considered to fill cancellations.

Poster presentations

Posters will be presented during two poster sessions. All posters will be visible for the full two days of the meeting. Poster content can overlap with content presented in other formats at the meeting.

There is still a limited amount of available space for poster presentations. Submit an abstract now. 

Visualization and computer demonstration presentations

New to the GCC this year is the Visualization and Computer Demo Showcase, featuring live demonstrations of software. These sessions run concurrently and are co-located with the poster sessions. Content can complement oral presentations or posters. If both a poster and related demo are presented, they are presented concurrently.

The Galaxy community is dedicated to open source principles and all featured software must be released under an open source license. Information about the software’s license must be included in the abstract.

Demos are run on the presenter’s laptop. A limited number of high-resolution monitors will be available and will be assigned to demos selected by the Scientific Program Committee.

Lightning talks

Not yet ready to present your work in a 20-minute presentation? You can still share your work! Lightning talks are short, focused presentations (5-7 minutes) featuring topics submitted by conference participants during the conference itself. They are presented in sessions at the end of each day and have been a highlight of every GCC.

The call for lightning talks will go out once GCC2016 events have started.


All accepted oral presentations are eligible for consideration for publication in the journal GigaScience's Galaxy series. Published papers will receive a 15% discount in the article-processing charge if you flag GCC2016 on submission. GigaScience aims to revolutionize reproducibility of analyses, data dissemination, organization, understanding, and use. As an open access and open-data journal focusing on reproducibility, GigaScience publishes all research objects (including data, software tools, workflows, VMs, and containers) from big data studies across the entire spectrum of life and biomedical sciences. GigaScience submissions use a novel format, where all of the supporting research objects are hosted and integrated into accepted papers using independently citable digital object identifiers from the journal's GigaGalaxy server and GigaDB database.
